The Accelerating Apache project was SGI's effort to increase the performance of the open source Apache HTTP Server. The project produced patches for application to an Apache source tree and contributed them to the Apache Software Foundation in the hope that the ASF would adopt them into mainstream Apache. Unfortunately the ASF rejected the work presented here and SGI terminated the project. It is parked now on SourceForge, courtesy of SGI. Feel free to contact me for information, but the project is over. This project's aggressive optimizations made Apache/1.3 up to ten times faster and Apache/2.0 up to four times faster on the SPECweb96 benchmark.
Patches are available for Apache versions:
Be sure to read all about the state-threaded multi-processing module (MPM) for Apache/2.0 that's faster than any standard 2.0 MPM! Check it out! |
